toshiba smart pad tablet prototype Toshiba Smart Pad tablet to ship with Android and Windows 7Toshiba Australia’s Mark Whittard has showed off a prototype tablet that looks like iPad and suggesting it would hit the market before October 2010. The device called “smart pad” and plans to introduce at least two types of tablets. One will run Google Android operating systems, the other will run Microsoft Windows 7.

The Smart Pad will has both HDMI and USB connectivity and support multi-touch input.

“This prototype as a HDMI slot; does that make sense? I think so. If you’re using it as a browsing tool for content sometimes you will want to connect it to your telly. Do you put in USB? I think so,” Whittard said.

He said the “digitiser technology” to allow multi-touch input was an option but wouldn’t be drawn on whether it would make the final cut to be included in the device.

I have a toshiba laptop for several years and have waiting for a good tablet.
With USB, mini or micro SD, and HDMI support, the more expandability the better. This is what the iPad does not have. Toshiba makes good products, and has good online support that has helped me. So I’m waiting to see how this device turns out.
