SeaMicro Launches an Atom-Powered Cloud Server with 512 Atom Processors

SeaMicro has developed a server that use just a quarter of the energy of an Intel Xeon-based server, by using Intel Atom processors.
The SM10000 server packs 512 Intel Atom Z530 processors running at 1.6GHz in a 10u rack mounted unit and includes storage and Ethernet switching.
The SM10000 server is designed for the Web server market where the main requirement challenge to handle millions of small tasks but higher in volume such as searching, mapping and viewing pages quickly.
The SM10000 server is due for release July 30, priced starting at US$139,000.
