HP Recalls About 70,000 Fire Hazard Batteries

Hewlett-Packard has recalled lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, on May 14, 2009. HP announced a worldwide voluntary recall and replacement program for battery packs used in certain HP notebook PCs. HP customers with a battery pack affected by this program will be eligible to receive a replacement battery pack for each verified and recalled battery pack at no cost.
The faulty lithium-ion batteries are used in laptops sold under a variety of brands, including HP Pavilion, Compaq Presario, HP, and HP Compaq. A list of model numbers is available on the CPSC Web site.
HP is offering replacement batteries at no charge. Customers also can call 800-889-2031 to get support. Additional details is available on the HP Website
